Island Escape

Welcome & Warm-Ups (5–10 minutes) Atlanta Challenge staff welcome the group, introduce the survival storyline, and outline the goals for the day. We set the tone with a quick icebreaker that gets everyone moving, talking, and ready to take on their role as castaways.

Intro Teamwork Challenge (10–20 minutes) We kick off with a short team problem-solving exercise that highlights the importance of clear communication and shared strategy. This gets participants engaged and thinking about how to best combine their diverse skills in order to thrive on the “island.”

Phase 1: Gathering Supplies (20 minutes) Teams compete in a series of survival-themed challenges to collect materials for their boat. These challenges may include brainteasers, scavenger hunts, and resource-earning tasks that reward creativity and cooperation. Teams earn building supplies such as bottles, cardboard, cups, tape, and string, then record them on their supply log. Each crew must decide how to prioritize their efforts and manage scarce resources.

Phase 2: Boat Construction (40 minutes) Using only the items earned in Phase 1, teams design and build their
“escape vessel.” They are challenged to balance innovation with practicality and to decide whether to share or trade supplies with other teams. This phase emphasizes resourcefulness, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills.

Phase 3: The Escape Attempt (20-30 minutes) Each team presents their craft and then puts it to the test in a regatta-style race or distance trial. As the boats take to the water, teams discover whether their design holds up under pressure. Did they focus only on their own escape, or did they create a situation where all crews could reach safety together?

Final Teamwork Challenge (10–20 minutes) We run a short but engaging wrap-up activity that reinforces the
importance of cross-team collaboration. This additional challenge ensures participants leave with both a sense of accomplishment and a clear takeaway they can apply to workplace dynamics.

Team Review & Wrap-Up (5–10 minutes) Teams reflect on their performance, including how they earned supplies, how they made resource decisions, and whether they collaborated or competed. Facilitators connect the lessons back to organizational silos, resource-sharing, and collective success. We end with a group photo and a closing message from the team leader.
