Team Trust & Conflict

A powerful experience that demonstrates how teams can engage with conflict in a healthy and productive way.

Overview

No two people are alike. A team is filled with different personalities, perspectives, and views. Conflict, disagreements, and mismatched visions occur in every team; how you handle these obstacles is what will make or break the team. We equip you to handle them effectively, supportively, and healthily in order to make your team the best it can be. We explore ways to remove common barriers that break a team down, and appreciate each other in a way that promotes happy, healthy environments. This training will show you concrete ways to use conflict to make the team more effective and bring the group closer together.

Agenda & Activities

Team Conflict Survey (10 minutes) Before the program, each participant will evaluate the team’s current level of conflict and its impact on the team.

Pre-event Consult (30 minutes) The team leader and the facilitator review the group information and align on outcomes to ensure a successful program.

Welcome & Warm-Ups (10 minutes) Atlanta Challenge staff welcome participants and set expectations and ground rules for the day’s events. We then lead fun warm-up activities that break the ice and get the group physically and emotionally involved.

Opening activity (20-30 minutes) We jump right into the program with an engaging activity that focuses on the day’s goal. The team will be presented with a challenge that will push them to come up with varying solutions, creating conflict in their chosen actions. Their reactions form the foundation of a conversation about healthy conflict that will guide us through the day.

The Teamwork Compass® (20-25 minutes) We lead an interactive conversation about the key ingredients of team- work, how different team members have a stronger affinity for some of those ingredients, and how to bring them all together to be a healthy team. We use this metaphor throughout the program to increase familiarity with this powerful tool and create a culture of success.

The Big Problem (30-45 minutes) The core of today’s session will be a larger activity broken into various phases, each focusing on a different area of the teamwork compass. The team works together in ever-changing circumstances; they will have to support each other in using a variety of approaches, focusing on working through their conflict and growing through it. This activity helps solidify the ideas we discussed before and connect them back to the workplace.

Conflict Support Checklist (10-20 minutes) Working through conflict can be a difficult process. Having a step- by-step guide to help tackle the process is essential. The team reviews a checklist they can tailor to keep the entire team on track for turning negative conflict into positive growth.

Final Teamwork Challenge (30 minutes) This hands-on activity will build trust and help your team utilize their new understanding of conflict. We discuss what steps the team used and what can be taken back into the real world following this event.

Closing Debrief & Wrap-up Activity (10 minutes) The group comes together to acknowledge the accomplishments of the day and incorporate lessons into real life. We wrap up with a meaningful closing activity and team picture.

Post-event Leader Consult (20-30 minutes) The program facilitator will talk with the team leader to share insights and suggestions for maintaining momentum afterward.

Virtual Group Follow-up (45-60 minutes) Approximately one month after the event, your facilitator will host a virtual follow-up session to review key concepts, answer questions, discuss best practices, and assist with creating action plans.
